Early morning

It is early Sunday morning, and everything is silent, except the crows, out there calling to each other by the pool. If I were more ambitious and a little less apprehensive about mountain lions, this would be a good time to go out walking in the hills. However, given that people have actually been eaten by the beasts not far from here, I think I'll wait till others are about before walking, even though then it will likely be too hot to think about it. Maybe later in the year!

You are a good size for snacks.

Yes, unfortunately so. But even big men get eaten. When I go to the zoo, the mountain lions are the only creatures who look at people as though they are potential dinner. Even the much larger regular lions and tigers don't do it as much.

One was seen near us a few years ago, but there aren't many. Lots more in the region where my mother is. She gets bears and bobcats and foxes and raccoons mostly.

Bears can be pretty daunting. I've seen bobcats here occasionally--no foxes, though lots of coyotes. Lots of raccoons.
