How This Year is Starting Out

This has not been an auspicious start to the year. Now it seems that the house may fall through because R has gotten his taxes in what is probably too late to get the loan in time for this escrow to go through. I don't know what any of this misfortune and all these obstacles mean, if they mean anything at all. I'll try to learn from all of it. That's all I can do.

There are always obstacles... On moving day from South Carolina to New York, I found out that my buyer hadn't bothered to get a mortgage. And she was a realtor. So I was in limbo for weeks, staying with my kids at my parents' house. And we couldn't move into our house here, and their lawyer threatened us with this, that, and the other. So I spent weeks calling my realtor every day until I could move on.

My experience in South Carolina taught me two things: never buy from a lawyer; never sell to a realtor, particularly one moving from out of town. Neither acts normally, and both know how to give you fits.

How awful! We rent from a realtor, and she is an awful landlord.
